ACFA successful in gaining Settlement Grants Program funding from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship for a further two years to continue work with African communities in the South East and Inner North areas of Melbourne. ACFA is exploring ways to make the most of the funding which has been reduced by a third.
ACFA members were entertained with some great African live music at the AGM held in April – now that’s the way to make a meeting fun!
Two of our programs are currently being evaluated – the Noble Park Drop In Project and the Employment Project. Your feedback is welcome.
Our AGM will be held on 20 April 2013. Contact us for details.
ACFA’s Reading Club made front page news in the Yarra Leader this week after winning a Yarra Council Award. The Reading Club was awarded as Community Service of the Year for the crucial role it plays in supporting African Australian families in Fitzroy; socially and educationally. The program runs twice each week, providing a warm and friendly space for African Australian children to read a range of books with volunteer mentors and receive homework assistance.
Many thanks Matoc and all the volunteers for your hard work!
